Doc martin boots with extra lace loop?

Hello. Today I bought some above the ankle doc Martin boots. When I was lacing them I noticed there was this extra shoelace loop type thing. The laces fit through but the plastic part on the end of the lace was really hard to push through. What is this thing ??
