DS: How do you control your dog(s)?

The best thing I ever heard on this subject (and it was referring to children, but fits dogs as well, I believe) is this: There is a difference between fearing the parent (or, in our case, the handler), and having a righteous fear of consequences. There is a difference between abuse and discipline. That is what I feel is missing in "all positive" training. You yourself experienced it. When the treat was gone, your dog said "screw this", because positive training has no consequences for misbehavior. Just like in life, there needs to be a balance, reward for good behavior, AND negative consequences for bad behavior. Why do people think our kids are so out of control these days? No consequences.
