In the vampire diaries tv show, what is going to happen to katherine?

damon gave her vervain so klaus can't compel her anymore, but will the original compulsion to say with him fade away, or is she stuck until he dies? I wonder because before he left alaric's apartment, he told her to stay put, even though he'd already compelled her not to leave in the prior episode. and do you think klaus will figure out that his compulsions don't work on her anymore?
