I kniow how you feel, although you don't want to hurt yourself, you feel asif you have to! Almost like it's to punish youself. What I did was buy a punch bag, after a while I became adicted to boxing/skipping and different kinds of exersize. Cat scratching and sniffing catflap?

I've got a cat like that and she's nearly three years old and the cat flap has always been there. She prefers coming in through a quite high up window, than use the cat flap. However since the weather turned cold and the window has been shut I have noticed that she has been using the flap. Not when I might see her though! I put her in the porch last thing at night and first thing in the morning she is outside in the garden wanting to come in. I have noticed that my hubby has been frequenting various porn sites when (and only when) I am not home. All you need to loose weight is exercise and eating healthy. If you're on a diet you shouldn't pass 1500 calories nor go under 1200. By eating healthy I mean no candy, nothing high in sugar, no soda, chips etc. Eat fish, salad, chicken, steak, beans, corn, rice, etc. You can eat all of that and loose weight/ maintain weight if you exercise along with it.

I just graduated in Dec. with a BA in Criminal Justice minor in sociology. I interned with DJJDP for 3months (160hrs), volunteers as a Guardian Ad Litem for a year, worked with a private Juvenile Drug treatment/prevention agency for 7months. The state of North Carolina requires a BA and 2years experience. I've applied to Court Counselor positions and even the tech positions that only require a HS diploma. What can I do? I think my age has a lot to do with me not getting a job- but since Oct. I've put in well over 300 applications for jobs in my field- even correctional officer jobs, and only had one interview. What volunteer work and all can I do to help get the job I want.?? Any advice?

You're much better off not drinking if you have a history of drinking to excess. I've been to hundreds of AA meetings, and I found it to be a religious cult. You don't need God to help you stop drinking. I did it by myself. AA meetings just made me want to drink more. It sounds like you're doing well, and you've found some insight into the problems that made you drink. Work those out with a therapist.

For me, it was this morning. I was wearing my favorite pair of jeans, when all of the sudden I hear a rip as I tried to tie my shoelaces. hahaha! What a revelation! I just moved here in the States, and the portions are so large! Should I buy the original CD or remastered?

I'm particularly talking about CDs from the 80's and 90's. I keep hearing about how remastered CDs are a victim of the "loudness war" and basically are just compressed to hell, therefore making the overall quality worse. However, I have both the original and remastered versions of Blind Guardian's Somewhere Far Beyond (1992), and all I really notice is that the remastered version sounds louder, but not of worse quality. Actually, its increased volume helps me enjoy it more compared to the original, which is, in all honesty, hard to hear. I'm not sure if it's just that album though, and were I to get other remastered albums I'd notice a lot worse quality.

I completely understand I am on the SAME boat as you! You just need to talk to him as much as possible about it. Trust me he knows something isn't right. I slowly talked to my husband about whats going on with him and got him to go see a therapist, only the dr was horrible and did nothing for him. He said he tried and was done. But as his depression and OCD was getting worse he is starting to open up about trying out another doctor.I got him to agree and made an appointment today. It will be hard to get your husband to talk to someone, but be there for him let him know you understand and go with him to his appointments. If anything just tell him you would like to go to a family therapist together. My husband thinks depression isn't real, but he knows something isn't right with him and he wants to be happy again.

I use compulsion. It helps eliminate the grey areas. Compulsion, corrections, consequences are all the same to me. Once the dog has an understanding then one doesn't or shouldn't have to use compulsion as much. I see it as making the dog understand that he must make the right choice. I also train for the ring. I use compulsion for more then the retrieve. Compulsion can correcting for a no sit by positioning with the leash; reminding with a tug on the leash that over means to jump that jump; etc. Done right compulsion doesn't create fearful dogs even on "sensitive" ones.

I had a baby 6 months ago and sarted dieting\exercising to lose baby weight. I was eating healthy and enough calories to lose a healthy 1-2 lbs per week. In april, I decided to go vegan at a healthy 109 lbs. I lost 10 lbsin the last month, including 3 lbs just last week. ( I ran really hard at the gym). The problem is that I've become very paranoid of gaining weight that I have a hard time eating more than 1300 calories when I exercise. I realize I've developed a compulsion, and do NOT. Should parents/guardians ensure their child can swim?

Hi, I was just curious if anyone besides me thinks it's a parent's responsibility to ensure that their child knows how to swim. In my opinion, it's a skill that I feel no one should be deprived of, but some parents just never ensure their child is taught how to do. I feel it's like riding a bike or tying a shoe: It's one of those things every child should learn growing up, especially if they live on the coast or close to a beach (not sure if the bike riding and shoe tying examples were good, but you guys get my point, I'm sure). If not swim, at least float or keep their head above water. There are plenty of children who grow into adults not knowing how to swim. I'm actually one of those people. I'm 20 and cannot swim (and neither can my 3 brothers), so I'm currently taking classes at the YMCA. I was talking to some of my co-workers (who's ages range from 21-23) about it and they can't swim either. Anyway, I just got tired of it. Every time I go to a pool, I have to stay in the shallow end, or hold the edge when I go to the deep end. I ask some of my friends that do know to try to show me but no luck. That's why I went to the YMCA to get a trained instructor to show me (and those adults are grown now, so they can take it upon themselves to do the same). Classes are going good. I know how to float now so I'm progressing. I just feel I should've been taught sooner, especially when I was living with my father years back since my father is retired Navy. I can't remember back that far as a child if I had asked him or not, but a child shouldn't have to ask. It should be obvious to a parent that they should teach or make arrangement to have their child learn how to swim. However, at 20 I can't sit around and wonder why I can't swim when I'm well enough to take it upon myself, so that's why I took action (although I wish I did it sooner, like, in my high school years). But it's not like a little child can teach him/herself or go on their own to the YMCA or community center and sign up. I know there are some limitations for some, like paying for the lessons. However, it shouldn't take the 18 years it takes for a child to grow up for a parent to save up money for swimming lessons. Also, there may not be any source of water nearby. But most cities have a public pool, community center, YMCA or something for the public nearby, so MOST parents shouldn't have the problem of finding water to teach their child. Also, some children may have permanent disabilities, which anyone can obviously understand. Maybe the parent cannot teach because the parent can't swim either. But that parent can make arrangements for someone else to teach the child or sign them up for classes like I mentioned earlier. I'm not necessarily labeling parents as downright awful, horrible, neglectful parents if they don't ensure their child is taught, but I'm saying that parents with a typical average child should take responsibility and DO THEIR BEST to ensure that their child can swim at an early age, as opposed to that child growing up not knowing this skill. I know when I have kids, I'm making sure that they are taught at an early age so they don't have to endure being an adult without knowing how to swim. You never know, it may just save that person's life if they're ever in danger in the water. I apologize for the length, but what is your opinion on this?

3 yrs ago I had guidance and support by two angels in my energy field for a period of about a year. In this time I went through a lot of spiritual growth. However, I have since 'lost contact' with them and am curious as to why? There is a difference between abuse and discipline. That is what I feel is missing in "all positive" training. You yourself experienced it. When the treat was gone, your dog said "screw this", because positive training has no consequences for misbehavior. Just like in life, there needs to be a balance, reward for good behavior, AND negative consequences for bad behavior. Why do people think our kids are so out of control these days? No consequences.

I do play the seven ( or however many there are ) parelli "games" with my horse on a regular basis. I don't see how asking your horse to move away from hand pressure or asking your horse to put its head down through give and release pressure could be considered bribery. To me, all horses should know this basic training and here is an effective yet gentle approach to getting your horse to know it. To be honest that is the farthest I have gone with the training. I think certain aspects of the training are infact effective, but I can't speak for any part other than the games.

Am I developing a psychotic condition?

I'm 14 years old, and I don't feel like I'm living like a normal 14 year old. I worry too much about things.... I put tape over my computer camera so no one can watch me, I poke holes in my window screen so it will be easy for me to escape from catastrophe and I even dial 911 if I THINK something bad will happen. Sometimes my mind confuses me, sometimes I talk and don't make sense. I always feel like someones watching me... What can I do to distract myself?

So I have this habit where I pull out strands of my hair (like curly kinky hairs) I recently found it's out an anxiety/compulsion disorder and if I continue the habit could escalate and I can wind up with bald patches. What smell do dogs hate that I can spray on our shoes to stop him from chewing them?

Our 5 month old Jack Russell Terrier has taken a liking to chewing on shoes recently. We have tried saying no an disciplining him but he still chews on the shoelaces and tears out the inner parts of the shoes and any insoles that we have in them. I was wondering if there was anything that I could put in our shoes or spray on them to deter him. I was also hoping it wouldn't be too awful smelling since we have to wear them around as well. Sounds like OCD and I know how annoying it can be. I told my mom about it and she didn't seem to take it seriously (I suggest you tell someone about it). So I decided since I thought it wasn't that strong, I would try to stop it myself. I read online that it can be bad if you try to stop it by yourself because the anxiety would worsen and you might end up with psychotic episodes. OCD can be really energy-draining and can prevent you from doing things that can help with life progress.

What is a good age to take away a pacifier?

I gave my daughter a pacifier when she was three weeks old and while she is not dependent on it, she certainly loves it. We use it in the car and at night and sometimes when she is upset it is really the only thing that calms her down. I know young babies have a compulsion to suck and that that is why they like pacifiers so much. However, I don't really dig the three and four year olds that still have their pacifiers. So when is a good age to take them away? Can it be done easily enough before they are one?

Does this compulsive thought pattern sound familiar to anybody?

I have been suffering from a strange thought pattern for 4-5 months that has recently become a compulsion, and has greatly interrupted my life. Whenever I hear, read, say or even think a sentence, my mind goes on a tangent of (bear with me) rearranging the first sounds of each syllable. For example, upon hearing the sentence "Hello, how are you?" my mind will rearrange sounds until it was "Lleho, yow hare ou?" I know it sounds dumb, but it's something I can't control. I'm in a weird situation?

so i was sitting on the couch in my living room watching csi wearing a shirt with a peanut on it when all of the sudden, a green, flying elephant from saturn wearing a ballerina tutu tried to eat my shirt off. so i ran and got on my bike with no wheels and peddled it backswards up the great pyramid of giza, and once i got over the pyramid, i stopped to tie my shoelace. when i got back up, i was inside a super mario bros. game. when i was attacked by a flying turtle, for some reason i screamed mamma-mia, then the screen went black for 2 seconds before i landed in a place called oz, and some weird smelling guy told me to follow a yellow brick road to graceland to see elvis, but on my way, i fell into a black hole and landed in bikini bottom, where i sort of couldn't breath, so i ran into some underwater squirrels tree dome to get air where i was shot by al capone after i refused to give him a stick of my gum. after i was shot, i woke up naked (i REALLY wonder how that happened....)in some imaginary cartoon like place and realized i was a cartoon too. next to me there was a tootsie pop, and all of the sudden for no reason i just wanted to no how many licks it takes to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop, so i was walking around asking a bunch of talking animals, and they all told me i had to ask mr hitler. so i asked him, "Mr. Hitler, how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?" So he took it and amazingly he licked it into a statue of him doing his weird salute in only just 119 licks. frustrated, i walked away only to fall into a deep dark hole, which i have been stuck in for three days. but all of the sudden, just like 30 minutes ago, my laptop came floating down the hole with angel wings, but once i grabbed it, the wings blew up (bummer). i don't need to know how to get out of here, there's just one thing i want to know before i die...if a tree falls down in a forest and no one's around to hear it, does it make a noise?

it is about a boy 16 year old boy called Aaron price and he lives in a medieval fantasy world. He almost kills it but a man comes out and says its friendly. (the goblins were shuned by socitey because they looked ugly since the begining of time and the urxes are rebellious people shunning goblins thats why they want war). anyway Aaron finds out the man is traveling to the kingdom to ask to fight for the king and Aaron asks to go with him. He agrees and the man teaches him sword fighting. while on the trip Aaron finds a Mysterious cape that when he puts it on he blends into the shadows he also learns that once he puts it on he can shadow travel. he hides it from the man. one night when they are sword fighting a group of shadow elves attack them. The man uses magic to defend himself and Aaron finds out that he is a elf. They keep on journering and they are attacked by more shadow elves the man asks aaron if he has anything he shouldent have and he shows him the cape. The man gets mad takes the cape and tells Aaron that he has put them both in grave danger for the shadow cape is the shadow elves sacred object (each type of elf has a antient object like the forest elves have the leaf of life). they then travel to the elvish holy city and give the cape to the elf king. the elf king tells them to take it and the elf king gives them both guardians. Okay so i just graduated high school.. The week of graduation was a very stressful time for me because i was trying so hard to pass Pre cal and my legal guardian (my uncle) and i got into a very discouraging argument about what my chances were of graduating.. To make a long story short, i was called a disappointment and all those wonderful things that parents say but sure enough i graduated... After that, i came back to my hometown to find a job to save money for college and i will be here for the next 6 months. I'm pretty positive my uncle is expecting me to move back with him when the six months are over. But I look back on my years of high school... And he really didn't offer much help besides financial help as well as a roof over my head.But with my dad in prison and my mom out of the picture, i really needed some support with my interest in my extracurriculars, and just needed somebody to be there for me. When my dad was around he would do anything to help me in anything i was struggling in. But my uncle suggested i find help from somebody else.. Honestly i felt like he didn't care about what i did at school. I spent my whole high school career in choir. Music is my life. And he would make no compromises to see me perform or at least try to be involved... Maybe i just compared him too much to my dad... but i really needed him and he wasn't there... And I'm sure when i go to college, i will have a hard time getting around since he is so focused on HIS life HIS plans HIS problems...whatever! One of my close friends invited me to move in with them... And honestly i really want to. But I have never been away from my family... I'm not sure how my relationship with my family will change if i do move out. I need someone's help! I'm currently 13 and have (what I believe to be) a very bad case of OCD.?

I've known that I've had OCD ever since I was a child, though I never told anyone, because normally I could just deal with the feeling quickly and forget about it,but now it's harder. The feelings come on stronger than they did before. It's gotten so bad that I can't even play video games without reloading files over and over again, I erase TOO much when I write with pencils in school, and I can't even tell the difference between my hands actually being dirty and my compulsions to wash my hands anymore. Please can anyone give me some advice as to how to get rid of my compulsions? I need help because I really can't go on living this way.

I've been struggling with OCD for about a year. I am afraid to tell my mom. I self diagnosed myself. I looked up all my compulsions and symptoms, and I am absoultley sure it is OCD. I am eleven. I know I'm not supposed to be here, but I need help! I am afraid I'll tell her and she'l either blurt out laughing or just be like, "Yeah, right, sure you do." My grandma also has OCD. My mom complains about her compulsions all the time, how annoying they are. My compultions are getting worse and worse, but I am scared to tell! I am afraid she'll be annoyed by mine. I try to hide them, but it's really hard. And no one else knows but me. How do I tell mom I have OCD?! Please help!

Your diagnosis of ADD and SAD is important to know, but the truth is, no one here can tell you for sure if you have OCD. I am close to some people who are diagnosed with it, and it does not always present itself in the way we typically hear about it, so it is not impossible. But sometimes a person with one neurochemical problem (ADD) is eventually found to have others as well. These are very complicated issues that can often be treated, if they are properly diagnosed. I am assuming your diagnosis of ADD was by an expert and not just a pediatrician unfamiliar with it. A real diagnosis involves quite a bit of testing, of different kinds. You should talk to your parents and get in to see a psychiatrist or a good psychologist to determine what is going on, and whether you need some counseling or other form of treatment. You may be fine. Better to see a professional now and learn that, than to worry about it instead of focusing on your schoolwork and being a teenager. Good luck.

Need help with split end pulling?

I used to think I was alone in this but after much research, time, age, experience and constant split end pulling of my own I believe I can help those with similar problems. For one, split end pulling is not the same as Trichotillomania. That is pulling out your hair for very reasons, usually causing bald spots and generally related to OCD. That being said, split end pulling is also related to OCD as is ADD. When I do it, I find myself obsessed with the broken hairs and a certain sastifaction comes from pulling them off or cutting them. More satisfaction comes from pulling them off however. I even enjoy pulling off others split ends and when the split end comes off I enjoy pulling them apart further. This of course is not good for your hair, but liek any addiction it doesn't stop me. I have been doing this since I was in 8th grade and I am now 33 years old. I do not get bald spots necessarily because I don't pull from the root such as Trichotillomania. Certain medications enhance this behavior. Particularly stimulants. I have never tried a medication for OCD but it might help. This compulsion can be a real drag because for a year or two I had Betty Page bangs because I could not stop. This really is a horrible compulsion because it has to do with your appearance and that studies show medication alone is not really effective treating a behavioral problem. If you or your child is not on any medication and is pulling at there split ends then the problem is most like coping skills. Some websites say that there are certain methods to stop which include: giving yourself a gold star everyday you don't pull (in my opinion, this is crap), write down you triggers and be aware of them, wear gloves. Basically I don't have the answer, I just know that you are not alone and talking to your doctor is not a bad idea. Good luck!

Please advise re eviction. I need help with this!?

My mom is 87 and lives 50 miles away in her home. I have services caring for her 7 days per week and a grand son who stays there at night to "be there". All has worked well for the past 16 months until he let his friend and friend's girl friend move in this week. I had told him he could not have anyone else living in the house as she is on a tight budget. These free loaders moved in with all their furniture. The home belongs to my mom ( I am legal guardian ). They refuse to move out now and the police say I need to give them 30 days notice and file eviction papers with the court system. Are they all kidding? they will destroy the house, eat her food and use her utilities. They refuse to go. Grandson is not cooperating either. What can I do? My mom is very fragile and had dementia.

Don't get me wrong. I like parties. If someone wants to throw a party to watch the game or birthday party or whatever, that's cool. But women have the compulsion to have sit down dinner parties. I went to one of these last weekend and it was the most boring experience of my life.

What's the problem with my dad?

My relationship with my dad is at most abrasive. My dad is a British graduate and used to be very bright. He was offered to pursue his masters and doctorate in UK but he declined. He worked there for 8 years before returning back. His family used to dictate his every move till his mother passed away. In UK he was very carefree and happy, but here he's bitter and cynical. My parents married by compulsion. They hate each other. When I was born he wasn't there to greet me and my mom, and his excuse was he's working. My dad controls my mom even when she used to work. My mom had to sacrifice everything( including her health for me) despite his abuses. MY dad has changed many jobs ever since. He was abusive to me and my brother till my sister was born. My dad says he's sorry but he doesn't seem to be genuine. My parents argue almost everyday (it was intense when I was young) and my mom has attempted suicide many times. My mom wanted to divorce my dad but she can't because of me and my siblings. Only a few months ago he apparently seems nice to us. To the outside world, he's damn charming and portrays himself as a saint. When I was young he used to be drunkard and he has many traffic violations(thousands of dollars). And he is gullible to other people's say. He is easily swayed by others opinion and never listens to my mom/my opinions. I was raised for a year by my late grandpa. Then, without any choice by ultra-abusive nannies(they physically abused me). I just can't forgive my dad because whenever he says he's changed, he reverts back to square one. The only thing I know is that he is narcissistic. He uses my family to exalt his image. He never plans anything, including financially, and he is impulsive. He used to have anger issues too-reason why he was physically abusive. He never shows any remorse or guilt. He doesn't hit my mom but when accidentally injure her he just leaves without a sorry. My brother is leaving soon to US on scholarship-his only emancipation from this rut. He is lucky he's top a student/valedictorian of his high school. I've got 4 more years till I can get out(in uni now).

My boyfriend and i have been together for 2 years now. He is from another country than myself. When we first met, we really connected, but i realized that something about all his stories didnt jive. He told me about many things, but these stories always changed. Then , after numerous times in catching him in lies, I faced him with it . I then realized that he was a compulsive liar and had some serious issues. Last weekend, while i was putting things away, i found his bank book, i looked inside and realized that he was sending money , fair amounts , overseas to his ex wife. I was shocked. We were looking for a new place to move into together and now the money that he was saving was gone to her. They dont have young children, the children are grown and are financially capable of taking care of themselves. So I asked him if he was sending money. He told me no. He then proceeded to fabricate this amazing story and had me believing it all. He tells me all the time that he loves me and that i am the only one that makes him happy. Unfortunately, since he is a compulsive liar, i cannot believe him. I am just part of his compulsion to lie. I stood up to him today and told him i could not take anymore of this, that he needs to return to her because his actions show, in many ways, silently, that he still cares for her. I feel like i am always begging for things from him, maybe a surprise, a card, a trip to the shopping mall. but now i realize that the reason why is because he is sending her a lot of his money and cannot afford to do for me. He tells me that he will never let anyone else be with me. Idel threats just to keep me giving the attention to his disease. I feel like i am enabling his lying , and this is like a cheap thrill for him.
